Tras la guerra intentó huir, pero fue capturado en Portugal y trasladado a España.En 1940 fue condenado a muerte mas treinta años de prisión. Mientras estuvo cumpliendo con su castigo enfermó de tuberculosis. Tuvo la opción de trasladarse a un hospital, pero él la negó y falleció con 31 años el 28 de marzo de 1942.
