Pertencía a Pedro Madruga, o conde de Caminha. Arrasada polos irmandiños en 1467. Reconstruída. Foi un dos poucos castelos, xunto cos de Soutomaior e Salvaterra, cos Reis Católicos permitíronlle conservar. En ruínas.
