Fou conquerida per Ramon Berenguer IV, que donà a tota la comarca el nom de Marquesat de Siurana. fou adjudicat en principi a Albert de Castellvell per a la seva repoblació, l'any 1174, Alfons I cedeix el castell de Garcia, entre d'altres, a Guillem de Castellvell.
