Naixement

Mercè Rodoreda va néixer a Barcelona el 1908. La seva infantesa va estar marcada per la figura del seu avi matern, Pere Gurguí, que li va inculcar un profund sentiment catalanista que la va acompanyar durant la resta de la seva vida. El 1928, i amb només vint anys, es va casar amb el seu oncle, Joan Gurguí, catorze anys més gran que ella, amb qui el 1929 va tenir Jordi, el seu únic fill.
