By far the most happening city in the north of the country.<br />The nightlife pumps: a young population combined with a steady stream of travelers heading to/from Bolivia give the streets a lively feel lacking in many towns in the region.<br />Some wonderfully well-preserved colonial architecture.<br />Salta is the center for excursions to the subtroopical montane forests of Perque Nacional El Finca Rey, the polychrome desert canyons of El Toro and Cafayate, along with their vineyards, and the sterile but scenic salt lakes and volcnoes of the Andean highlands.
